SAN
JOSE, CA - April 29, 2003 - Telcontar,
a leading supplier of software and related
services for location-based services (LBS),
and Criticom International Corporation,
The Critical Communications Solutions
Company, today announced a strategic alliance
to jointly develop and market mobile safety,
security and convenience (MSSC) applications.
Under the agreement, Telcontar has developed
vehicle and mobile asset tracking software
that Criticom will use in providing integrated
tracking, monitoring, and emergency response
services to Mobile Safety, Security and
Convenience (MSSC) solution providers.
Directed Electronics Inc., the world's
leading aftermarket vehicle security company,
has already announced that it has contracted
with Criticom to include these services
in its vehicle tracking, parental control
and theft recovery products that will
be launched nationwide in May.
"Criticom International's operational,
call center, emergency response, and wireless
communications experience is an excellent
fit with Telcontar's strengths as a leader
in mapping, tracking and notification
technology," said Eric Carlson, president
and CEO, Telcontar. "One of the factors
retarding growth of the MSSC market has
been the requirement that potential solution
providers work with and integrate multiple
products from multiple software, services,
communications and hardware vendors to
create complete solutions. As a result
of our partnership with Criticom, vendors
targeting applications such as aftermarket
vehicle tracking, child tracking, medical
tracking and mobile asset management will
be able to generate revenue more quickly
with superior performance and lower risk
than they could achieve developing their
own back end service systems from scratch.
This long term partnership is an important
step that promises to help accelerate
the growth of the MSSC market over the
next several years."
Criticom International provides monitoring
and emergency dispatch services to homes,
businesses and mobile persons, vehicles,
and assets. Recently Criticom International
assisted the New York City Department
of Design and Construction with debris
tracking for the World Trade Center clean
up. Telcontar also has a proven track
record that is represented by its top
notch customer list of more than 40 LBS
providers in the U.S. and Europe including
Yahoo!, ATX Technologies, Satronics, Hutchison
3G, and Rand McNally.
"Criticom International believes strongly
that the MSSC market represents a huge
opportunity for monitoring and tracking
services over the long term," said Curt
Quady, President of Criticom International.
"We are very excited to have this relationship
with Telcontar and look forward to delivering
the many benefits that will come out of
this alliance to our customers."
