San
Jose, Calif. - February 26, 2003 -Telcontar,
the provider of the premier software platform
for location-based services (LBS), today
announced it will now be able to provide
NAVTECH® data pre-formatted in its proprietary
RMF format to its customers. By eliminating
the need to negotiate separate data and
software contracts with multiple vendors,
consolidating support points of contact
and providing pre-formatted data, Telcontar
has substantially reduced the implementation
costs, time to market, and technical risk
for LBS and telematics services suppliers
in the United States and Europe.
"Telcontar is very excited by this agreement,"
said Eric Carlson, President and CEO of
Telcontar. "We believe simplifying the
value chain is the key to accelerating
the emergence of a mainstream LBS services
market. By buying map data and spatial
platform software from a single source,
our customers will now be able to get
to market faster with less risk and reduced
investment in vendor or contract management.
Once in the market they will experience
lessened support and operating costs as
well as a reduced requirement for in-house
map data expertise. We look forward to
working very closely with all parties
to ensure the success of this program."
Telcontar's Drill Down Server and Traffic
Manager products are widely used for the
creation and delivery of large scale,
private labeled telematics and LBS services
such as map portals, in-vehicle, handset
or PDA-based navigation, roadside assistance,
real time traffic reports and vehicle
tracking. Some of the company's well known
customers include Yahoo!, ATX Technologies,
H3G, Pharos, Networks in Motion, Ford
Motor Company, Criticom, Directed Electronics,
AudioVox, Intertrack and Solectron.
"Navigation Technologies has been impressed
with Telcontar and the quality of its
products for years as the two companies
have worked together on a number of customer
implementations. We are pleased to formalize
this agreement and strengthen the ties
between the two companies," said George
Filley, Vice President and General Manager,
Internet/Wireless of Navigation Technologies
North America.
