Telcontar Releases Drill Down Server 3.0

Major New Release Improves Real-Time Traffic Support, Map Image Quality, Routing Performance and Geocoding Effectiveness

San Jose, CA - May 8, 2002- Telcontar, a leading supplier of software and related services for location-based services (LBS) today announced the release of Drill Down Server™ Version 3.0. Already the premier platform for production grade location—based services, DDS 3.0 now provides enhanced capabilities for fleet tracking, trip planning, navigation, real—time traffic information, emergency roadside assistance and concierge services.

"Telcontar has always worked to understand and respond to our customers," said Eric Carlson, President and CEO of Telcontar. "The Drill Down Server 3.0 was defined specifically with their requests in mind and includes numerous enhancements that are directly useful to them and extend our existing technical leadership in this industry. That is why leaders such as Yahoo!, Pharos Science and Applications, Inc., Hutchison 3G, Rand McNally, ATX Technologies and Motorola already use the Drill Down Server to generate billions of maps and routes per month today worldwide. We are proud to continue to offer a flexible spatial, geocoding and routing platform that produces better quality, and is faster than anything else available today."

The Drill Down Server enables a variety of location-based applications that can be accessed using Internet browsers, cell phones, call centers, Pocket PCs, PDAs and in-vehicle telematics units. New features of the Drill Down Server 3.0 include substantial performance improvements in route calculation and image display, improved geocoding accuracy and inferred address capability, ODBC compliance and enhanced integration of traffic information to support operations such as real time traffic flow monitoring by route and rerouting around congested road segments.

"The Drill Down Server 3.0 enhancements are very valuable to us," said James Oyang, Ph.D. and President of Pharos Science and Applications, Inc. For example, the DDS geocoding is now good enough that we no longer need to license a third party geocoder, which saves us money. We also are using DDS 3.0 to develop new real—time traffic applications and other wireless internet GPS/LBS applications for Microsoft Windows-Powered Pocket PC phones, smartphones and other wireless mobile devices that promise to generate substantial new revenue during this year. We are proud of our relationship with Telcontar and will continue to look for ways to expand it in the future."

The Drill Down Server 3.0 is currently available for Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows NT with support for Sun Solaris, Linux, HP-UX and Free BSD. Standard map databases include DMTI Spatial, GDT, NavTech, TeleAtlas North America and Europe.
